41/415 IV

Maria Aristotelous

AudioVisual installation

41/415 IV  is the fourth part of a compositional and/or installation series I started in the middle of 2012. All the four 41/415 are multimedia pieces,in the sense that these consist of many mediums that are all necessary for the multi layers of translational processes that these series are aiming for. The continuum plays an important key role in the series of 41/415 plays, which started as an inner-structure continuum in the first part of 41/415 (in the form of many different timeframes, as rhythms and visual motifs that were present through the 10 minute length of the piece) and transformed into a more mythic and timeless continuum in the second part of the piece by the presence of enigmatic scribbles and drawings in the installation context of it. In the third part of 41/415 I intentionally place the context of the piece in a more mythic and universal timeframe by introducing another timescale, a macro one , that includes the artistic process that evolve outside time and can be understood as the time distance between the creation and performance of all 4 parts of 41/415 and also the possibility of a time continuum that has yet not happened and most possibly include next versions of it, that will differ from the previous by the impact of the same continuum. And that macro time scale dynamically and karmically change the piece in time. Out of that Time comes 41/415 IV as an another event in the Collective time i described above leaving open the possibility for another 41/415 V in some point in time . It is important to note that these pieces are being triggered as events in the macro-time in a more or less Synchronicity way and not in any way randomly .

12 PRINCES

12 PRINCES For Continuum, Percussionist and Actor

Maria Aristotelous: composition Tapes, Visuals, acting
Ruben Castillo Del Pozo: Percussions
Michalis Paraskakis : Actor
Taken out of the Time that mysteriously flows continuously and archetypically 12 Princes serves as an Event for Jani Christou Epicycle. Although the score for Epicycle wasn't used for this piece many principles that surround the score and system of Epicycle were used. The Epicycle which stands for a circle inside another circle serves as an Anaparastasis for the ritual of circles that seize and dominate, many times without our conscious knowledge, our everyday lives. We throughout our everyday rituals, unconsciously, neglect to pay attention to the terrifying layer of Time Continuity that sneakily runs in the background. Only when we pay attention to it, this Time intensifies and overshadows everything. On the other pole through our circle rituals we manage to pull that away - almost out of existence until it reappears. 12 Princes comes out of Time to remind us a little bit about this and then silences again until the next Anaparastasis.

this piece evolves around the idea of time as a collective space,a space united ambigously with the visual abstract dimension through a score.explorations of the duality of dynamics in the relationship: media - interface - score - drawing.

41/415 III is the third part of a compositional and/or installation series I started in the middle of the previous year. All the three 41/415 are multimedia pieces,in the sense that these consist of many mediums that are all necessary for the multi layers of translational processes that these series are aiming for. The continuum plays an important key role in the series of 41/415 , which started as an inner-structure continuum in the first part of 41/415 (in the form of many different timeframes, as rhythms and visual motifs that were present through the 10 minute length of the piece) and transformed into a more mythic and timeless continuum in the second part of the piece by the presence of enigmatic scribbles and drawings in the installation context of it. In the third part of 41/415 I intentionally place the context of the piece in a more mythic and universal timeframe by introducing another timescale, a macro one , that includes the artistic process that evolve outside time and can be understood as the time distance between the creation and performance of all 3 parts of 41/415 and also the possibility of a time continuum that has yet not happened and most possibly include next versions of it, that will differ from the previous by the impact of the same continuum. And that macro time scale dynamically and karmically change the piece in time. The structure of the composition is based on the idea of the Lunar Archetype ofTransformation as it was described by Carl Gustav Jung, and the idea of the Proto-Performance as it was introduced and described by the composer Jani Christou. A projection and a percussionist interfaces between the different circular parts and paths of the piece and sets questions not only about the time of the different sonic actions but also about the place and the medium through which these occur.

This is a dream and its structure is yet unknown...

“ 13.DREAM: The father calls out anxiously,"That is the seventh" During the walk over many ladders some vent has evidently taken place which is spoken of as "the seventh". In the language of initiation , "seven" stands for the highest state of illumination and there for be the coveted goal for all desire....."    (C.G.Jung Dreams )

This is the third time i introduce the term of the interface score in a work , a score in this case that sets the conditions for a second graphic one to be sonically decoded and played-improvised.It sets the conditions as a hint to the complicated translation processes of a line concatenate meta-notations . Line plays for a very very long time a very important role in my work, line can be really powerful when in use due to the energies that can be hidden inside its form qualities , its use in a notational system can determine not only a transition towards a non iconic abstract reality (spiritual) of the conventional music signs but also a different time relation of the being.

The place of the piece is the place of the irrational , the dream. Archetypes and actors , consciousness and unconsciousness , actors and musicians ,composer and performer , masks and projections ,waking and dreaming ..... potentlal or not events dynamic dipolar relationships in the collective continuum until the karmic appearance of the archetypal number .
